About 400 people stood behind barricades Monday, chanting “Shame on the Met.”

The Met is putting on performances of “The Death of Klinghoffer.”

The opera is based on the 1985 killing of a disabled Jewish passenger on the Achille Lauro, an Italian cruise ship hijacked by four members of the Palestinian Liberation Front. The 69-year-old was shot in his wheelchair and pushed overboard.

But opera expert Fred Plotkin says the work depicts the Klinghoffers as the moral backbone.

The Met has canceled its live November movie theater and radio broadcasts of the work, saying it might trigger anti-Semitism overseas.

Earlier in the day, a rabbi led Jewish teens in a prayer vigil.

Just wondering what happened to common sense and good behavior? How does something like this happen in NYC?

We get it Charlie. You respect Avi Weiss. You feel he does much good. I will point out that many people do chesed, from all religions and all walks of life. It doesn’t change the fact that open orthodoxy has been openly criticized even condemned by almost every group that calls itself orthodox.
Its not always easy to get all spectrums of orthodoxy to agree on something. But Avi Weiss certainly has at least one accolade. He has united torah true jews against open orthodoxy.

This useless mayor has the unmitigated gall to criticize Mayor Guiliani for attending and speaking? What Chutzpah.
