New York - Health officials in a Hudson Valley county are reporting an outbreak of a gastrointestinal virus that has sickened more than 200 people.
Dutchess County Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Caldwell says his agency is working with the state Health Department to identify the cause of the 24-hour stomach illness known as norovirus.
The first illnesses were reported earlier this week. Health officials are investigating to find the source of the virus.
The exact cause is unknown, but the Health Commissioner said with people swimming in lakes and at summer camps, cleanliness is the order of the day to prevent it from spreading even more.
“This is a pretty virulent bug, nobody has been hospitalized and nobody is very ill,” he said.
Noroviruses cause diarrhea and vomiting. Most people recover after a day or two. People get sick by eating food, touching surfaces or contacting people contaminated with the virus.
People in Dutchess County are being advised to wash their hands frequently and before handling food.

Use hot water and soap after the toilet and you won't get sick. Shabbat is not an excuse for not washing your hands properly.

Here we go again. Is it so hard for people to wash their hands when they are dirty or before handling food or after changing a diaper?
WASH HANDS WASH HANDS WASH HANDS WASH HANDS. Say this 50 times and maybe we will all get the point.
