The JC.com (http://bit.ly/1rs7BS6) reports inspectors found the situation unsatisfactory at Talmud Torah Yetev Lev after a surprise June visit.
It was reported the staff had inadequate child protection training, polices for promoting good behavior were not implemented and sometimes children were left unsupervised.
Sections of the building were also listed as “untidy, dirty and in a poor state of repair.”
Yetev Lev is run by the Satmar. It teaches 762 boys from ages three to 12.
Students said that common punishments included extra homework, sitting at the front of the class or standing for 20 minutes, punishments not deemed appropriate by inspectors.
A Yetev Lev source said that it would “do whatever is necessary in order to satisfy the department’s requirements.”
