While a professor at Towson, Rabbi Bernard “Barry” Freundel would take students on field trips to the Kesher Israel Synagogue and would offer female students the chance to take the ritual mikvah cleansing bath, reports ABC News 7 (http://bit.ly/1th1yGC).
Police searched and seized the computer from Freundel’s office in the liberal arts building on Tuesday.
Rabbi Bernard “Barry” Freundel was arrested last week for charges related to spying on women at the Georgetown synagogue, where it’s alleged he hid a camera in a clock radio to record women taking part in the sacred mikvah cleansing bath.
Campus spokesman Ray Feldman said every bathroom and changing area at the university was searched for hidden cameras, and none were found.

There is no basis in halacha for a rav who will be megayer a woman to go into the mikvah with that woman without clothes on for “practice” sessions to assure she does it correctly when the time comes for the actual toivel. Most rabbonim would agree such behavior is inconsistent with tzinius and conveys the wrong impression. A rav, or for that matter no man, should go naked into mikvah with a woman who is not his wife. Many would hold that it is assur to go into mikvah even if the woman is your wife.
Nebech, nebech what a tragic story that gets worse by the day.
When this is over, this disgusting, perverted individual, should be required to register as a sex offender!
They should change the name of his shul to “Sheker Israel” instead of kesher Israel.
What a nut case.
What are we Arabs?
And, the RCA, that pillar of Rabbinical integrity, rushed out at the speed of light to announce that ALL Freundel’s conversions were valid. After all, Freundel was the point man for the RCA on conversions. But, who is the RCA to say that any גיור is valid or not, especially when they are trying to protect themselves from their own disgraced point man, to whom they gave their הסכמה for years? When our so called רבנים act out of political motives, and not those based ע”פ הלכה, it is high time for them to be retired from the public scene. Let the RCA make all the statements they want when it comes to secular issues. But, by all means, their statements on הלכה should be ignored (as they are), especially when the RCA are flagrant בעלי דבר.
He should be stripped of his “rabbi” title.
