Mayor Bill de Blasio signed legislation Monday that will reduce the limit from 30 mph starting Nov. 7.
The measure is part of the mayor’s ambitious traffic safety plan known as “Vision Zero” to reduce pedestrian and driver deaths.
De Blasio stood with other elected officials and relatives of accident victims when he signed the bill on a street corner on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
He said the survival rate of an accident at 25 mph is much higher than at 30 mph.
Ninety percent of the city’s streets will have a speed limit of 25 mph or lower. Exceptions are made for highways and some other stretches of road.
So now I could ride my bicycle in NYC as fast as you can drive your cars. Welcome to the third world, New York!
This will mean more revenue for the city from moving violations and minimal effect on fatalities or injuried.
Its not gonna help besides for his p.r.
This is GREAT News!
Next week he will lower the speed limit on the Guns that are used in NYC….
well traffic wasnt so bad until now, right? disgusting. speed camera to death everyone
Most people’s cars in NYC will now be use as giant paper weights.
Mr de Blasio, maybe just ban driving cars. I read somewhere that fatal injuries from cars that are parked are much lower that those going 25mph.
All part of comrade DeBlasio’s vision zero, which is ironic because there is no vision in communism.
I am pleased to see , based on the comments so far ….that there are still a few sane people left in NYC .Thanks alot Mr Greenfield !
Vision is a wonderful thing. Impossible expectations? Not so much.
Vision Zero will fail because the goal of 0 deaths is virtually impossible to attain.
this is a great thing. you might not like the guy but this is necessary for the safety of all especially since so many in this city to not know how to drive safely and put people at rist every day. thank you mr mayor.
