In an interview with The Jewish Week (http://bit.ly/1xAyqYV) Eric Schneiderman hinted that his office may be expanding its probe into the scandal, saying, “The investigation has not yet wrapped up.”

The scandal involving the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty resulted in the convictions of Met Council leaders who inflated insurance bills. The $9 million resulting from overpayments from over 20 years funded political leaders’ campaigns who assisted the Met Council win contracts to help the poor.

Schneiderman stated his office is looking into leads provided by the former CEO of the Met Council, William Rapfogel, who pleaded guilty to taking part in the scandal and was sentenced in July of this year to 3 1/3 to 10 years in prison.

A major unanswered question is if Rapfogel’s friend and political ally, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, might be implicated in the scandal. The two have been tied together for years as residents of the Lower East Side and for their involvement in real estate in the area.

Rapfogel’s wife, Judy Rapfogel, is also Silver’s longtime chief of staff.

Schneiderman said in the interview that he has been working with the board, who has been very helpful in assisting the DA’s office with finalizing the scandal and making sure that anyone providing donations to the organization will know their money is being used as it should be.

If there are more people involved, and I certainly hope not, but logic says it would be people in the inside; i.e. Board or staff. Trying to implicate an outside politician, no matter who it is, seems to be pretty ridiculous and Loshon Horo. It’s an insinuation without proof by the “Jewish Week.” Big surprise there (sarcasm).
