NYPOST.com (http://bit.ly/101RxQz) reports that according to records, Thompson’s chauffeur, 47 year-old detective Joseph Brown, admitted to selling drugs with Richard “Dickie” Squires, who was suspected of killing Tyrone “Goon” Smith in Bedford-Stuyvesant in 1985.

Brown, who was a cooperating witness in the case, was hired former Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes’ office in a community relations capacity in 1987.

Sources say Brown’s involvement in the case was not unearthed by Hynes’ staff until after he’d been promoted to detective years later.

A 2008 review of the cold case in 2008 turned up Brown’s name, but the detective was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing.

A spokesman for Thompson said the DA has “no problems” with Brown driving him or his family.
