According to Israel National News (http://bit.ly/10z47In) the report states the money was unreported to tax authorities and was channeled through charitable groups and “Badatzim,” or kashrut supervision groups.

The report closely looked at 20 organizations that operate in the haredi community from April to October 2013.

Per the report, 11 rabbis and six Badatz groups made about a billion shekels combined (approximately $250 million), credited to a single “Kabbalah rabbi.”

In addition, “Kabbalah” rabbis collected hundreds of millions of shekels from devotees in cash and never paid taxes. The report said it was likely that the money wasn’t being used as donations to the rabbi, but instead used for money laundering.
The report added that the comptroller’s office and additional authorities have been requesting an investigation into the tax collection since 2009.

Want more hope? Sometimes the oldest profession is not the last of the short sighted. Rabbis can be corrupt! Hope your son becomes a cable operator before he becomes a tainted rabbi. Scary times!

So much for Halacha when personal gain is involved.

I doubt my local Rabbi reports the $$$ he gets form his chometz sale.
This is part of the system. However, when talking about such large amounts, then the gov’t might have a claim.
It’s a business just like anything else and taxes should be paid accordingly.
