HAARETZ.com (http://bit.ly/10BtjOm) reports that the special VIP treatment allowed high-profile rabbis—who may often attract large crowds—to skirt typical security measures and drive their vehicles out directly onto the tarmac, where the would then be met by border and customs agents.
A petition put forth from the legal clinics at Sha’arei Mishpat Academic Center was filed with the High Court, arguing that the specific treatment was “inappropriate” and that there was no “objective criteria” taken into consideration when compiling the list of rabbis who make the list.
Consequently, the rabbis will now have access to a VIP lounge while going through customs, and will have to pay for typical airport VIP drivers to transport them to their flights.
That’s the way it should be. A real genuine Rabbi wouldn’t even think of asking or expect such treatment which creates and generates more expenses and human labor hours besides the security aspect of vehicles driving on to the tarmarc. The real genuine Rabbis love to mingle with the common folk which in of itself sets the example demonstrating that all men and women were created equally by God and as we know from the Bible, Moses our greatest leader who was the only human being who spoke to God “face to face” was still the most humble of man.
That’s a true leader, and if Moses wouldn’t consider himself a VIP then it goes to follow that any Rabbi who expects that treatment is not deserving of the title.
Great!! Who do they think they are?!? When these Rabbis travel, one can think the president of USA is !!
Did anyone see the recent clip of R Teitelbam escort? Even the mayor doesn’t travel that way!!!
What exactly is that a picture of?
Right. But if the true “role models” of the world were to show up at Ben Gurion – like actors or sports figures or rock stars or politicians – you can be your life the smug idiots at “Sha’arei Zima” would be the first ones rolling out the red carpet on the tarmac.
Nobody here understands what the phrase “special VIP treatment allowed high-profile rabbis—-who may often attract large crowds” means? It wasn’t done to be nice to the rabbeim. It was done to avoid large crowds in the terminal, especially security areas. But to the men here who hate yiddishkheit, it’s all the same. Let the Israelis put up with crowds at the airport and unsafe security areas, better that than making any Rav more comfortable.
dont they have better things to do than deal with harmless courtesies?
Why does the man next to the Rabbi have his face covered with a stretchy hat? Is this a new chumra?
1. If it helps with crowds at airport, I am all for it.
2. I want a white beard like the fellow in the photo.
