Three vehicles were stolen in the Wesley Hills/Pomona area in the early morning hours on Sunday, November 2nd. A 2001 Nissan Altima was stolen from an Astor Place driveway in Wesley Hills and a 2012 Acura MDX was taken from a Hidden Valley Drive driveway in Pomona. Both vehicles were left unlocked overnight. A 2009 Harley Davidson VROD motorcycle, bearing a for sale sign and parked at the end of a Route 306 driveway in Wesley Hills, was also stolen on the same date.

Three more thefts took place in Monsey in the early morning hours of November 5th. Two cars were stolen from the same driveway on Pine Road, a 2013 Ford Escape and a 2012 Honda Pilot. A 2012 Jagaur XJL was also stolen from a Meadowbrook Lane driveway.

In all three instances, the vehicle owners left either their keys or an electronic key fob in their unlocked vehicles.

Ramapo Police are investigating whether all six thefts are related.

“We are not saying that the thefts are connected, but we are looking into the possibility that they are,” Lieutenant Mark Emma told VIN News.

Given the unusual number of thefts in the area, police are suggesting that residents take sensible precautions.

“Don’t leave your keys in your vehicle, even for a short period of time, especially electronic keys,” said Lieutenant Emma. “Take your keys with you, secure any valuables and be sure to lock your cars.”

Who is stupid enough to leave a car unlocked nowadays?

My locked car was stolen years ago, from a parking lot, in the downtown area of the city, which I live in. It was stolen by two savages who broke into the car and hot wired it. Then, they took my car on a joy ride, and crashed it into another car. I immediately walked over to police headquarters, presented my license, registration, and proof of insurance, and filed a report. The cop at the desk was not nice, and he implied that it was my fault, when he stated “Did you leave your keys in the car”. I immediately showed him that my keys were in my possession. My car was impounded by the cops, and I had to make numerous calls to get those incompetent cops to release my car. Then, I had to arrange for a tow truck to tow it, to a body shop where it remained for a month! Afterwards, I had to fight with the insurance company to arrange for a car rental. In the meantime, the idiotic cops came to my house looking for me, as they didn’t even know that my car was reported stolen! Two days later, a detective called me regarding the hit and run; she, too, didn’t realize that my car was stolen. From now on, I always use the club, to keep the wheel locked!
