Jerusalem – Two high ranking government officials—following a visit to eastern Jerusalem’s Shimon Hatzaddik Station where an Arab terrorist ran down civilians just days ago—said the city needs to adopt the “heritage of Giuliani in New York” in order to quell the climate of fear that has overtaken the region since the attack.

ISRAELNATIONALNEWS.com (http://bit.ly/10HvT4D) reports that Deputy Transport Minister MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) and MK Yoni Chetboun (Jewish Home) were moved by reduction in the number of passengers riding the Light Rail on Sunday and said that more aggressive policing and a zero tolerance policy like Giuliani used in New York are in order.
“He who wishes to bring back security to Jerusalem must adopt the heritage of Giuliani in New York,” Hotovely said, while adding that stricter penalties must be enacted for crimes ranging from terrorism to rock throwing.
Chetboun said that as a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee he is committed to “operational” activities inside Arab neighborhoods by police and military as opposed to the “defensive” measures currently in place.
Guliani implemented defense measures by putting the cop back on the beat. Israel is faced with the enemy from within namely israeli arab non law abiding citizens who are ready to sacrifice their lives by driving their vehicles in to crowds of law abiding unassuming citizens waiting for a train, a bus, a taxi, or pushing a baby carriage. Such a threat is unique to israel only and stop gap measures like putting cement barricades by the light rail are just stop gap measures. Immediate remedy is to bar all israeli arab owned and or registered vehicles from entering jerusalem. Any violator will have his car confiscated plus a hefty fine and a jail sentence if had previous criminal record.
You might recall, that he also targeted minor crimes such as graffiti and jumping the turnstile on subways – he said that if you get away with a minor crime, you are more likely to move on to more serious crimes.
