New York – Early morning raids in two Jewish communities resulted in the arrest of more than a dozen people who are now facing federal fraud charges.

Raids in Brooklyn and Kiryas Joel brought charges on suspects accused of mortgage fraud and welfare fraud among other charges.
Search warrants were served by FBI agents in both areas, and three suspects are still at large.
Those arrested face charges including mortgage fraud, wire fraud welfare fraud according to a US Dept of Justice source.
The suspects are set to appear in federal court in White Plains later Thursday.
The U.S. Dept of Justice Preet Bharara, the FBI of NY, and Orange county Sheriff DuBois, are expected to release more details of the investigation at a news conference Thursday 12 PM, at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in White Plains.

This is Federal indictments and Cuomo/Christi have no say in the matter which means jail time for most. We honest tax payers have been waiting a very long time for the arrests to be made. Thousands and thousands of documents are in the Feds’ hands.

I am really glad this is finally coming to light. Growing up in boro park, my parents who were very poor tried to hard to get certain benefits like section 8 and were told there were limited vouchers and they were all spoken for. They spoke to various “agencies”, all run by the chasidish who offered to “sell” them a voucher for $5,000, as well as help them get fake payment stubs to help them qualify for food stamps. (since they made slightly too much for it). My parents were proud, moral people and they turned down all these offers of “tzedakah” and I am so proud of them for that.

unfortunately, I am not shocked In the least bit, although these communities are not the one ones in which fraud occurs, it is very enticing for individuals to want to work’ off the books’ to be eligible for programs and collect section 8 to pay their mortgages (there is a backwards way to do this) Cost of living is high and every penny helps even if it comes illegally.
This is what happens when you teach your children that it’s okay to cheat.
