New York City - The MTA announced Wednesday it was launching a pilot program with CNN that will place TVs at subway or commuter rail stations to broadcast news and system delays. The broadcast would be similar to the one CNN airs in airports.

The monitors could also be used to broadcast emergency information, officials said. It’s unclear which stations will be involved in the program and how long it will last, but installation of the monitors will be paid for by CNN and take at least 12 months.

If the pilot program succeeds, TVs will be posted in stations and bus stops throughout the system, generating revenue for the MTA.

I actually enjoy CNN. They used to be bias at Israel, but these days the truth sides with the public, and it's ratings that counts.

Per the article, CNN is paying for the installation of the televisions, so this isn't raising fares. Also, the article states that the program may generate revenue for the MTA, which can actually delay (we can only hope) the next fare increase.
