Master Sergeant Itzik Weizmann, from the Jerusalem District traffic police, arrived on the scene after hearing about a shooting via his police scanner, reports Ynet News (http://bit.ly/1x3TLbN).
“Civilians pointed me to the place. I saw a man lying on the stairs at the entrance and I realized I was facing a terror attack,” said Weizmann.
Weizmann’s colleague Master Sergeant Zidan Saif arrived shortly after with a policewoman. The two men, along with another colleague, Superintendent A., took the terrorists down outside of the synagogue.
“Zidan Saif arrived with a policewoman. They were on the right side of the entrance and I was on the left. The terrorist came outside shooting, Zidan was hurt. I kept shooting and the terrorist fell,” Weizmann said.
Saif succumbed to his wounds hours later. Weizmann was hit twice in his thigh.
Cousins Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal entered the Bnei Torah synagogue Nov. 18 and attacked worshippers, killing five people – Saif, Rabbi Moshe Twersky, Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, Rabbi Kalman Levine and Aryeh Kupinsky.
