The mass group of people spilled from the main synagogue hall into the synagogue downstairs where the attacks took place, reports Israel National News (http://bit.ly/1qzbk6S).
The Rosh Yeshiva (dean) of the Kiryat Melech yeshiva Rabbi Shmuel Bornstein led prayers.
Attendees were request to observe a one-day fast – an act associated with spiritual healing. Those who were unable to fast were asked to make a donation to charity.
Posters announcing the prayers conveyed the sense of loss at, “the horrible disaster that struck our home, where the Hand of God was among us, May God have mercy – a thing which no human being can comprehend.”
The prayers were held in honor of Yom Kippur Katan, a monthly “mini day of atonement” observed by Orthodox Jews before the Hebrew calendar month.
