Barcelona – Tel Aviv won the World Smart City Awards in the category of Best City at the Smart City Expo World Congress held in Barcelona this week.

The city won for its digital revolution, with the panel commending the rollout of the DigiTel model, a platform for transforming Tel Aviv into new standard of technology and a pioneer in new models of public engagement, according to the Smart City Expo (http://bit.ly/1qBCAlk).
DigiTel is a resident’s card that offers subscribers citywide information and discounts based on their interests. Special rates are offered at different institutions, community centers, pools, parking lots and beaches, among others.
The 2014 event was the most international in its history, bringing together around 400 cities and 41 international delegations.
