The bill still needs to be passed in parliament to become a law, but Sunday’s vote looks to further inflame tensions with Arab Israelis and Palestinians. It could also shake up Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government due to the fierce opposition of two of his more centrist partners.

The bill calls for recognizing Israel’s Jewish character, institutionalizing Jewish law as an inspiration for legislation, and delisting Arabic as an official language. Opponents say the bill undermines Israel’s democratic character, and rights groups have called it racist.

Arabs make up about 20 percent of Israel’s population and strongly oppose the bill.

Of course these “rights” groups oppose it, the only thing they would not oppose in regards to Jews would be them being herded on to cattle cars to be turned into lampshades.
Is Saudi Arabia an Arab country? is Jordan an Arab country? is Lebanon an Arab country? is Pakistan a Muslim country? Is Afghanistan a Muslim country? Is Turkey a Turkic country? Is Egypt an Arab country?
And the Jews can’t have one country?

If this bill does not pass, then let’s redo the Israeli flag with green colors and replace the Jewish star with a green leaf. Also the Hatikva will have to be reworded to take out references to”Nefesh Yehudi” I am sure Livni et al will have no problem with that. Neither will Satmar.

Golus shmolus ,the state of Israel exists and will exist for a long time so get used to it.The extreme frum people that want to live in that country have to obey the laws of the country .If they want to wait for Moshiach they can wait in Jordan. As for Moshiach, there are many ways to interpret the question ,as to who is and when etc.

This is a terrible bill and raised at the wrong time. Of course, this is Bibi’s intention – a poison pill guaranteed to rile up the Palestinians so he can blame them for all the problems. This bill goes way beyond establishing Judaism as the state religion of Israel. It actually removes Arabic as one of the national languages of Israel. Considering that not only Palestinians but hundreds of thousands of Jews speak Arabic as their first language, this is unnecessarily insulting. Any harm that arises from this bill is on Bibi’s shoulders.
