The fee to check a second bag for domestic flights will rise from $25 to $50, and fees for items that require special handling -- such as surfboards or ski equipment -- also will increase on domestic and international flights.
These changes will apply to tickets bought on or after July 31 for travel on or after August 5.

We flew Delta domestic a few weeks ago, and were almost charged $80!!! because our luggage was a few pounds above the limit of 50. With some pushing and shoving we managed to transfer some things, but we couldn't get over how much they wanted to charge.
