As previously reported on VIN News, 21 year old Eduard Ivashchenko of Midwood was apprehended by police on Monday and is believed to be solely responsible for the vandalism.

Councilman Chaim Deutsch and Senator Simcha Felder have announced that the New York State Office of Victim Services is offering up to $500 in reimbursements to anyone who is either under 18, over 60 or is disabled, and had their tires damaged in this incident.

Qualified applicants must include a copy of the police report, proof of age, an insurance card, a receipt for any new tires and proof of disability, if applicable.

“It’s the least we can do,” Felder told VIN News. “People are feeling upset enough about security issues in the community, the least we can do is help at least some people recoup some of their losses.”

“People who commit acts of vandalism should be held personally accountable and victims should not have to look for other sources to get reimbursed,” added Deutsch.

According to Deutsch, Ivashchenko remains hospitalized for mental issues and has yet to be indicted.

Deutsch said that he remains in close contact with the District Attorney’s office and hopes that an indictment will be forthcoming shortly. A total of 54 police reports were filed in the aftermath of the mass tire slashing that took place early last Sunday morning, with some cars reporting the loss of more than one tire.

Both Deutsch and Felder are offering assistance filling out applications to any qualified applicants. Victims are encouraged to call Deutsch’s office at 718-368-9176 or Felder’s office at 518-455-2754.
