Bentonville, AR – Biggest Retailer In U.S. Hints To All Employess To Vote Republican

Bentonville, AR – Wal-Mart Stores Inc is mobilizing U.S. store managers to lobby against Democrats in November’s presidential election, fearing they will make it easier for workers to unionize, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if store workers unionize, the paper said.

About a dozen employees who attended meetings in seven states said executives stressed employees would have to pay hefty union dues and get nothing in return, and might have to go on strike without compensation, and warned that unionization could force the company to cut jobs as labor costs rise, the Journal reported.

The Wal-Mart human-resources managers who have run the meetings didn’t tell those attending how to vote in the November elections, but made it clear that voting for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, would be tantamount to inviting unions in, the Journals said.

Wal-Mart spokesman Dave Tovar told The Associated Press that the company did discuss the bill with its employees, including what it sees as the negative impact, and noted that the company’s stand on the legislation is no secret.

“We believe the Employee Free Choice Act is a bad bill and we have been on the record as opposed to it,” he said.

But he said the company wasn’t advocating that its employees vote against backers of the legislation.

“If anyone representing Wal-Mart gave the impression… they are wrong and acting without approval,” said Tovar. In fact, he said that Wal-Mart has been working with both Republicans and Democrats.

“Half of our (political action committee) contributions are to members of each party,” Tovar said. “We regularly educate our associates on issues which impact our company, and this is an example of that.”

As somebody who is going to vote Mcain, I still find walmart sugesting to thier employees how to vote to be EXTREMELY troulbling. NO company should tell thier empoloyees in an orginized corporate function how to vote. In addition, as corrupt as most unions are, in the long run they are better for the employees as well as the entire nations economy. Wallmart has gotten way to large and powerful in this country. if you want to know why the economy keeps losing manufacuring and manual labor jobs in droves,

Wallmart is the answer. they force companies to sell at such low prices, these companies now have no choice but to outsource production to slaves in China, the Philipines and else where. for all you who think im wrong, go buy your kids some chinese made toys from walmart and hope that they dont end up with lead poisoning to save a few bucks. (PS enjoy your cheap food from them courtesy of our enviroment and our morality as it to is produced by those working for a couple of dollars a day.)

I agree that it is concerning that Wal Mart is telling its employees how to vote. However it isn’t the only company to try to influence it’s employees politically.

When I worked for a large regional telephone utility some years ago, we were assembled for a presentation encouraging employees to donate money to a PAC (political action committee); many if not most employees did so. This PAC was lobbying for legislation that would allow telephone utilities to provide other services, such a cable television or internet service. However, specific candidates were not mentioned or endorse.

I do think that this may be common practice among large utilities, especially for employees who’ve worked for the company for years, moving into higher positions, & strongly identify with it as a result.

    Concerned American Yid,

Why does this bother you so much? Unions have been leaning way to the left for a long time and they ENDORSE them as well as FORCIBLY contribute member’s money to the left for a long time.

WalMart is simply telling their workers to keep in mind where their bread is buttered. WalMart and the rest of the country’s ecomony will CHV tank under the Obamanation and his Marxist rule.

Obama = communism. If he was a moderate or conservative, I would pull the lever for him with pride.
