The bill is being drafted by Assembly members Jim Tedisco and Nicole Malliotakis and senators Phil Boyle and Marty Golden, all Republicans. According to a news release Sunday, the legislation to be introduced in the next session would have the bullet-proof glass installed over a phased-in period, starting with the New York Police Department.
The lawmakers are calling for part of the $5.1 billion state surplus to be used to pay for the retrofit.
The legislators don’t include a cost estimate. Texas Armoring Corp. of San Antonio says it charges $55,000 and up, depending on level of bullet-proof protection.
Come on this guy would have found another way to kill cops. Its not worth the costs for one mushigner.
Lets just deport Mayor Wilhelm De blasio and sharpton and save the taxpayers millions of dollars
Morons again reacting rather than being pro-active. Where did this guy get a gun from? Where they wearing bullet proof vests?
To #3- Don’t you read the news, or what? The cops were both shot in the head; therefore, bullet proof vest would not have done them any good. I agree that the glass in police cars should be bullet resistant. However, the body of the patrol cars should also be retrofitted with armor. There are executives in large corporations who already have such protection. In addition, the President’s limo, the VP’s limo, and certain members of the Cabinet, already have such protection in their official cars. It is too bad that members of the public can’t also enjoy that protection. In years past, there have been incidents of snipers opening fire on motor vehicles, and killing motorists. If their cars were bullet resistant, those motorist would be alive today.
What about the cops walking the beat? Will they also be wrapped in some bullet proof casing?
How about bulet-free neighborhoods?
And would be after such installation? Can’t he/she ask for help so they will be generous enough to roll their windows down and continue with their plan? Need a better protection.
to #3 sgmoish. . Bullet proof vests do not help if you are shot in the head!!! that is what happened to these officers.
