Essex County, NJ - Acting Gov. Has Near Miss In Parkway Crash |
|
Codey and a state trooper were headed to Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport for a scheduled appearance when the accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Essex County.
Codey told the The Star-Ledger that the driver of the crashed car was unconscious after the accident and that he rushed to his aid, tilting back his head until he regained consciousness. No one was injured, and the driver tried to get away from the scene as soon as possible once he realized what had happened, but he was detained by police for questioning.
Codey's close call happens nearly 16 months after Gov. Jon Corzine suffered severe injuries -- fractures to the leg, breastbone, collar bone and ribs -- when his SUV crashed on the Parkway, which an investigation later revealed was the result of speeding.

Given NJ history it would be better for everyone if the state avoided governors.
