Uszer Lejtman of Elizabeth was leaving a wedding at Tiferes Rivka with his wife Diana at approximately 10 PM when the couple was struck by an SUV driven by a 37 year old driver from Borough Park street at 12th Avenue and 40th Street.

77 year old Diana Lejtman was transported to Lutheran Medical Center while Uszer Lejtman, whose injuries were somewhat more severe, was taken to Kings County Hospital Center.

Both Kings County and Lutheran are level one trauma centers, but Lutheran’s trauma division was on diversion last night. According to Yanky Meyer of Misaskim, neither of the Lejtmans appeared to have sustained life threatening injuries.

“They opted to take the husband to a trauma center because of his age,” Meyer told VIN News.

Uszer Lejtman died of his injuries at approximately 4:30 AM.

“No one expected things to end like this,” said Meyer.

Meyer said that there is no accident scene to investigate, because at the time of the incident it did not appear overly serious and by the time Lejtman passed away five and a half hours later the area had already been reopened to vehicular traffic.

Sad outcome to a simcha…BP drivers need to be more careful, although in this case, it doesn’t appear there was any speeding, DWI negligence or willful intent.

Nebech, B’DE. When will people INCLUDING Yidden start driving safely and responsibly!

Isn’t there automatically an accident scene investigation when people are injured and taken to hospital, all the more so when they are specifically taken to a Level One Trauma Center?

Man can cover-up a death and say they don’t know who did it. If man decides to ignore their responsibilities, then G-d himself will punish the killer.

Just try crossing Coney Island Avenue at Avenue J or Avenue M on a Thursday night or Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, it is Frum Yidden who are in a hurry that will make you run for your life or come within inches of hitting you as you try to make it across the street on your light. Don’t think for a moment that the non Jewish neighbors are unaware of this and comment about it.

When you drive like this, or push another Yid in a supermarket during the half off sale before Shabbos, you are creating a major Chilul Hashem and you have learned nothing at all in life.

I must comment on a terrible phenomenon I’ve noticed many times over among our Frum community: people still using hand-held cell phones while driving! I’m disgusted when I see how many Yeshivish looking people, including those with long beards, holding their phones! You are getting a terrible Aveira in addition to putting everyone else’s life, including your own, at risk! I realize that each person thinks they’re totally in control, and that THEY are not “one of those other people” who gets distracted enough to be able to cause an accident. WRONG! Driving on Ocean Pkway a few weeks ago, my car was almost hit head-on by a Yeshivish looking man talking on his hand held cell phone! When he finally became focused enough on his driving to realize he had had a near collision, I saw him quickly throw his cell phone down on the seat next to him! Rabbosai, is this honest behavior? Is it fitting for a Ben Torah to be so reckless, not to mention violate Halacha? Dina d’malchusa dina. You are committing a crime! That means YOU too! You learn Torah like a good Yid, but your failure to abide by Halacha, and putting others’ lives at risk turns your learning into nothing. I personally know of a friend whose mother was struck and killed by a driver talking on a hand held cell phone. Please resolve today to get a Bluetooth! The life you save may be your own! Or your child’s!
