Cuomo declared a state of emergency on Monday for New York City and suburban areas to the north and east.

He says the massive storm barreling into the area “should not be taken lightly” and “could affect health and safety.”

The governor said winds could gust to 55 mph. Blowing snow will affect visibility and cause drifting.

Cuomo says he’s considering a travel ban on all main roads in the New York City area as a safety precaution.

The governor says the ban will be confirmed after an updated weather report at 4 p.m.

However, he says it’s likely to be implemented at 11 p.m.

He called the measures prudent. He says they were required to avoid potential dangerous situations of people getting stranded in their vehicles in the snow.

New York City will have limited subway service after 7 or 8 p.m. because of the storm.

Officials expect that Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road will be closed around 11 p.m. Monday.

Cuomo says the plans will be firmed up after a 4 p.m. weather advisory.

He says PATH service will operate on a regular schedule until 9 p.m., and then go on a weekend schedule.

Up to 2 feet of snow was predicted, with the heaviest snow falling from about midnight Monday through Tuesday afternoon. Winds will be strongest across eastern Long Island. About half the flights Monday at the region’s three major airports were canceled.

Well, de Blasio just announced a travel ban in the city after 11pm. All non-emergency vehicles have to be off the road parked.

I guess US is slowly becoming a police state and a dictatorship. Travel ban is unconstitutional and it should be treated as such.We should be able to drive our cars at anytime we want storm or no storm. It is called a freedom of movement.Last I heard this is a free country, if I want to put my own life at risk it is my right to do so if I so well please to. Lol democracy? Cuomo and DE Blasio you out to be ashamed of yourselves. This is nothing more than a power trip.People open your eyes and speak your minds the freedom is slowly becoming extinct. It is our right as United States citizens.
