The pair had been scheduled to meet behind closed doors Thursday afternoon at the Park Lane Hotel in Manhattan.

Christie’s office announced Wednesday that the plans have been scrapped due to a change in the Israeli president’s schedule.

Missiles fired by the Lebanese Hezbollah group struck an Israeli military convoy on Wednesday, killing two soldiers. The attack was an apparent retaliation for a deadly airstrike attributed to Israel that killed six Hezbollah fighters in Syria earlier this month.

Rivlin has been in New York for his first official visit as president.

Christie’s office says Rivlin will now be returning to Israel on Wednesday.
