Bnei Brak – Police deployed in force in Bnei Brak early Thursday morning to carry out dozens of arrests at one of the Haredi world’s flagship yeshivas, following a series of complaints about violence, vandalism, and arson among a small core group of offenders, Tel Aviv police said Thursday.

Thirty yeshiva students were arrested during the raid at the famous Ponovezh Yeshiva, as police went door to door with lists of students, looking for suspects involved in what has been described by police and reports in the Haredi press as a feud between two rival groups of students at Ponovezh.
One of the groups is described in various reports in the Haredi press as “the terrorists”, and the other as “the haters”. The two follow separate rabbis, according to a statement made by one of the suspect’s attorneys in court on Thursday.
Over the past several months, police said they have received dozens of police complaints about acts of violence and vandalism and carried out the arrests in order to try to calm the situation at the yeshiva, known as possibly the most renowned Litvak yeshiva in the world.
One of the incidents mentioned in several reports in the Haredi press on Thursday, was of an incident during the month of Elul, before the high holidays, when students from the “terrorists” group ransacked a library at the yeshiva associated with their rivals. The incident was described as a “pogrom” in reports on Haredi internet sites Thursday.
Police said the raids were meant to focus on a core group of instigators, and by Thursday afternoon, 26 of the 30 were released without conditions. Another four were released from custody and ordered banned from Bnei Brak for three days. During their hearing Thursday, the presiding judge said that because of the type of allegations and the young age of the defendants, there was no reason to keep them in custody.

one has to wonder how does such a thing like this happen….perhaps these boys can’t handle learning all day long . not everyone is cut out for that….many need some distractions and variety of other interests….sports…learning a job…some hobby….just to mention a few
No longer is there a distinction between Chassidim and MIsnagdim.
Is that a new haredi trend, to call fellow jews terrorists?
Of course they did this in full view of the press just to show how “awful” we are. Like the non frum world doesn’t have it’s own instigators. Mamish disgusted!!!
Nice Kiddush Hashem
That Yeshiva and it’s leaders was the cause and source of tremendous divisions, sinaas chinam, discord, hate and violence against various other Jewish religious groups such as Chabad and Sefardim among others.
As in many other instances, it now comes home to roost.
When youngsters are taught to hate others they never are able to diferrentiate and ultimately bring hate home.
So sad. And so telling on the leadership or lack thereof in klal yisrael
Is this the way Bnei Yeshiva act ????? A shame !!!!!!! A disgrace !!!! This is not what the Torah teaches us !!!!
So much for their learning. They should be drafted. Maybe some responsibility will straighten them out.
What a Chillul Hashem,
“because of the type of allegations” – what this really means is that because this is just an intra Haredi fight, we need not bother ourselves with it too much.
It’s so nice to see that todays rabbonim have completely dropped teaching the boys midos and derech eretz. They might as well close their gemaras. Their learning is worthless. Derech Eretz Kdama Letorah.
Where are the Roshei Yeshivah? How can this be allowed to happen? These guys have a lot of pent up anger and energy. I think they should be shown straight to the Army induction center. The army will teach them how to act. They obviously do not belong in Yeshiva
Was this also the tzioinim’s fault. No nobody should go to the army. These laidigaris should all just stay in yeshiva. Tzionim pewwww.
I saw signs this morning to daven and say tehlim for these guys and didn’t know what it was at the time. Now I get it.
I think its about time to arrest the whole lot of them
All thay are busy is fighting for their kavod.
Why does every single part of life have to do with there politics.
A bunch of terrorists that thay are. Both of them both sides over there.
So these boys arrested were Aurebach/markowitz’s boys or the Stienmien/ kanahmen boys?
Couldn’t be…they’re such helige boys! Let the hooligans among them be drafted, and then they’ll learn how to channel their aggression more appropriately.
Sounds like there are some Chassidim are in that Yeshiva. Next thing we may hear is Ponovezh 48 and Ponovezh 45; or Ponovezh Aronim and Ponovezh Zalmonim.
tip to #14 : Markowitz and Mechablim both start with an M. They were arrested.
isnt this called mesira?
Bad enough what people think about their rivalry. What does Hashem think?
This is nothing new….old problem. Ever since Rav Shach was niftar there was no set ruling who should take over. They have been PHYSICALLY attacking each side for years. Sadly this is so ironic. Yeshiva bochurim and their Magidei Shiurim spend all day over a shtender discussing and taking apart the most obscure diyukim of a sugya, Yet when it comes to reality “halacha l’maaseh” they’re incapable of settling anything! They can’t even agree on compromise on going and accepting an outside Beis Din’s p’sak.
It is terrible when our chillul Hashems become public. We should work on keeping our chillul Hashems private!.. especially from ourselves.
Bad bad news!! Uch
For those that would like to study history, this is not the first time infighting threatens the very survival of a torah institution. The yeshivah of Voluzion, founded by R’ Chaim Voluzioner was closed because of the infighting that was going on at the time. Yes, I am aware that the revisionists would like you to believe it was closed because they did not want to initiate a secular studies program. This is factually not true. There is more than ample documentation, letter and correspondences from yeshivah staff and students that show this to be so. So here we go again! Will Ponovezh close? prob not. but sad non the less
I’m sure they will make wonderful and caring husbands from what they learned here.
is AlterG from the haters or the terrorists ?
i know he is not from the zionists
#23 ,
You are right, the Gedolim are all over this and are doing a great job. Much to proud of here.
thank you VIN for explaining at least 1 more reason why Moshiach is being delayed
to #23 , the gedolim here are the kind that float at the top of a ceramic bowl. time to push the handle and flush these frauds out.
