Speaking at a memorial ceremony for former prime minister Ariel Sharon in the Negev, Peres said, “Bibi [Netanyahu] can make speeches at any place or date, but when the President of the United States asks him not to come before elections, he must respect that request.”

Peres also addressed the tension between Israel and Hezbollah after an attack that killed two IDF soldiers on Wednesday, saying that “both sides understand that there is no choice but to cease their fire.”

“The main consideration now must be to lower the flames and not to make speeches,” he said.

Netanyahu said at the same ceremony for Sharon that Iran was behind yesterday’s attack on IDF vehicles traveling close to the Lebanese border.

“This is the same Iran that is trying to reach an agreement whereby it will be allowed to maintain the ability to develop nuclear weapons. We are resolutely opposed to such an agreement,” Netanyahu said.

“We will continue to defend ourselves from all threats both near and far,” the prime minister said.

Referring to Sharon by his informal moniker “Arik,” Netanyahu said the late former prime minister understood very well the nature of the Iranian regime, and that what Sharon said is still valid today.

I guess he’s not familiar with democracy, where the President is not the boss. He’s the manager. The people are the boss. And the same way the people elected the President to serve them, they elected Congress to serve them.

I have much respect for Shimon Peres, He is the elder statesman, and served his life long work for Israel. However, as he is getting older, he is acting more like Jimmy “the peanut farmer” Carter. First, to criticize the Prime Minister as if it is his fault. When congress invites for him to come and address them – what should he do turn your back on them? You have an issue, lay the blame on the speaker of the house. Where is his respect for the prime Minister of Israel to lecturer him like a baby. “WHEN OBAMA SAY NO IT MEANS NO”
Second, saying both sides should cool it, when Hazbolah shot missiles and killed 2 soldiers in cold blood. As if both sides are in the wrong.

I guess when you get old your head gets mushy. He should be immediately confined to a nursing facility, and kept there quiet where he can’t cause trouble. If he keeps this up he just might partner with Carter on a new book. Both are old and senile and would make a nice team.

I can’t understand what happens to these guys later in life. They just throw all their life’s work out the window? “BOTH SIDES SHOULD TAKE IT EASY”

In normal times, Peres would be correct, but Bibi understands that these are not normal times. We cannot be quiet. We dare not be quiet.

Netanyahu’s treatment of this administration has been harangued with one mistake after another. I’m not Obama’s biggest fan but I almost can’t blame him for dampening relations with Israel. Well maybe I can, but Bibi certainly helped it along

Who cares about Shimon Peres’ opinion, pertaining to Netanyahu and Obama! Unlike Peres, Netanyahu is not an Obama “groupie”, and does not bow down to him. If the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives invites the Prime Minister of Israel for a visit, and asks that he address the U.S. Congress, he has a perfect right to accept. He does not need a “green light”, from Barack H. Obama. To this date, Shimon Peres has never given a full accounting of what he knew and when he knew it, vis-à-vis the Pollard affair. He was Prime Minister of Israel at the time of the Pollard matter (both before Pollard’s arrest, and afterwards). Hence, I’m sure that he knew what was going on. The spin that there was a “rogue spy element” involved with Israeli intelligence, somehow does not pass the smell test. If Shimon Peres had come clean years ago, and ordered his government to cooperate with U.S. officials (pertaining to retrieving stolen and sensitive documents), Pollard would have been released from prison a long time ago.
