WABC reports that JetBlue Flight 94 had begun its descent into Westchester County Airport on Sunday afternoon when its collision-warning system alerted pilots that a small plane was coming toward it.

JetBlue says its pilots’ quick reaction averted a collision.

A passenger, Megan Sikorski, tells the station (http://7ny.tv/1yKV93b ) that as the JetBlue plane shot upward in a defensive maneuver, she could hear the “whoosh” of the small plane beneath it.

Sikorski says she buried herself in her mother’s lap and clutched another passenger.

When the JetBlue plane landed, Sikorski and her mother say the pilots seemed shaken and announced that someone had been “joyriding” in their airspace.

Really, it’s about time there was a crackdown on these small planes flying in congested areas. Yes, I know the good work some of these pilots do, volunteer to fly sick people to hospitals, etc… Too many of the other flights are joy rides as the Jet Blue pilot said. Unfortunately,we have also read here on VIN several tragic stories of Yidden piloting these small planes and dying in crashes along with their families. R’L Yes, we have also read stories of Yidden dying in all sorts of other accidents will be the counter argument, but small planes seem to be particularly dangerous despite what anyone says.

Seems to me that small planes should be required to file route plans and be approved by air traffic control. It’s seems like basic common sense with so many flights around greater NY.
