Jerusalem – On Eve Of US Trip, Netanyahu Takes Iran Campaign To ‘Kotel’

REUTERS/Marc Sellem/PoolJerusalem – Israeli Prime Benjamin Netanyahu took his campaign against a nuclear deal with Iran to Jerusalem’s sacred Western Wall on Saturday, on the eve of his departure to Washington to address Congress on the issue.

His rare pilgrimage to one of Judaism’s holiest sites was highly symbolic — and political — an apparent attempt by Netanyahu, two weeks before a national election, to portray a U.S. visit, that has brought relations with Washington to a new low, as crucial to Israel’s survival.

Using the perimeter wall of the destroyed Biblical Jewish temple as a backdrop and wearing a black skullcap, he said: “The agreement being formed between Iran and the powers, can endanger our existence.

“In the face of such an agreement we must unite and explain the dangers it poses to Israel, to the region and to the entire world.”

Netanyahu has come under almost unprecedented criticism from the U.S. administration and in Israel for his planned speech to Congress on Tuesday, as international talks with Iran are under way to secure a deal on Teheran’s nuclear program.

Washington hopes a deal with Iran will ensure the Islamic Republic is unable to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran denies it has any nuclear arms program and often points out that Israel is apparently the only country in the region with such weapons.

On Wednesday U.S. officials questioned Netanyahu’s judgment and said his outspoken condemnation of efforts to reach an Iranian deal had injected destructive partisanship into U.S.-Israeli ties.

“I respect U.S. President Barack Obama,” Netanyahu said at the Western Wall where earlier he placed his palms on the stones in whose crevices faithful place written messages to God.

“I believe in the strength of Israel’s relations with the U.S. and through them we shall overcome these differences, as well as those to come,” he said.

Republicans who control Congress invited Netanyahu without consulting Obama or other leading Democrats. The president said he would not meet Netanyahu because of the visit’s proximity to the Israeli election.

Netanyahu’s speech is destructive to Jews in America and worldwide.

Netanyah has chutzpah like never before. He should be ashamed of himself to spit in the face of an American president.

Jews in America must come out with a strong message that Netanyahu does not represent and doesn’t speak on behalf of all Jews. There are tens of thousand of Jews who want nothing to do with this chutzpah’niak and his country.

Oh? Where will this absurd compaign end? That Bibi has no qualms in exploiting the use of “items” that will promote his goals.

Maybe if we had a “chutzpah’niak” like him in 1939, there would be 6 million more Jews alive.

    Dear Mr. Alterg,
In the Megillah, Esther came to the evil king Achashverosh to plead on behalf of the Jewish people. Thousands of Jews said that she should not stoop to a goy to ask for help. She went anyway, upon the request of Mordechai.
Today, Bibi will ask Congress to listen to the plight of the Jewish people.
Then we davened and fasted for her success, will you daven today for Bibi’s success or for his downfall?
Will you overlook your personal opinion for the sake of Klall Yisroel?
    That is the question.
    Yours truly,
    Mendel
P.S. Bibi is talking to congress on Ta’anis Esther

Bibi represents me, he represents all Jews. He is our prophet and is standing up to a foolish king.
This is Purim all over again.

May HaShem be with Bibi, which we can certainly expect given the importance of the PM’s shlichus on this trip and the Ta’anis Esther date, and may we and the whole world see a “v’n’haphech” of the situation with Homan’s descendants (soon to descend and descend and descend into the depths).

H”KBH has saved us throughout history when we have united together in action and prayer. Do you think you could put aside your differences for a week and support Netanyahu and daven for a yeshua? As you see from Haman and from Hitler that they think ALL JEWS ARE THE SAME.

Can we not learn this basic lesson? Are we doomed to repeat our mistakes?

I think we could. Have a meaningful fast and a freilichen Peerim.

    AlterG, Lakewood Ben Torah,

Please realize that we are all represented by people who show themselves to be Jews. So you and I are both represented by the elected leaders of the great country of Israel. Unfortunately, we are also represented by the parade of Chareidi lowlikes who continually make the news with their criminal behavior. So Instead of criticizing Bibi, why don’t you get your own houses in order. You claim to be the real Jews, but the behavior of your communities are so incredibly detached from Judaism. G-d doesn’t need your Purim costumes that you run around in. He doesn’t ask for fur hats, that you keep your wives from driving and your children from getting an education, or $280 Italian fedoras, He asks that you follow his Torah, that you recognize His Mitzvos, and by the way, He is the greatest Zionist of all.

    Netanyahu is 100 percent correct!
Mr. Obama has stretched the former 6 months of negotiations deadline, into 6 YEARS. Of course Bibi is right.
Is Netanyahu supposed to stay quiet, while Iran uses the past six years of improved technology to launch a nuclear bomb at Israel? This is like a student raising his hand and never getting called on.
Since Mr. Obama has been so sweet to Iran, while so cold to Israel, Mr. Netanyahu MUST speak up and not be told to shut up.
He has to help his country since the whole world is watching America placate Iran.
