During a Monday night appearance on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, de Blasio said the comments were not new and referred to a part of history that still hasn’t been worked out.

When a Staten Island grand jury declined to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner, de Blasio spoke of warning his own son to be cautious in his dealings with police. The remarks infuriated police unions who blasted the mayor as anti-police.

During the TV interview, de Blasio suggested his relationship with police had improved, saying it was now on a “better page.”
