Denver, CO - Departing from her pre-released text, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida just mentioned her Judaism and Senator Obama's views on Israel as she seconded Mr. Obama's nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

"As an American Jew and a strong supporter of Israel, I know there's only one candidate who represents all of our values: an unwavering commitment to the security of Israel and a progressive agenda for America. And that candidate is Barack Obama," Ms. Wasserman Schultz said.

Ms. Wasserman Schultz became a fixture of sorts on cable television earlier this year when she was one of Senator Clinton's most ardent supporters during the prolonged primary fight and, in particular, the battle over how to deal with the vote Florida held earlier than permitted under Democratic Party rules.

TO Debbie,

Thank you for helping me to better understand why the Rabbonim made it forbidden to daven at a reform Temple. Thank you for giving me one more reason to thank Hashem for redeemed me from reform apikores. Thank you for giving me one more reason NOT to vote for Barak Obama.

Right on Rep. Wasserman Schultz! We should remember that as members of a minority group, we need to stand with other minorities. When the start persecuting one group, say Muslims or gays, even if we disagree with those groups, they eventually get around to us yidden. And that is why the Republicans scare me.

Some people tell white lies. Some people outright lie. Some lie openly and put a microphone in front of their face so that others will hear it. And some people listen to obvious foolishness, believing that if someone was given a podium and mike, they must be reputable and truthful.

For the past many months, we consumers of the media have been listening to Obama flip flop on almost every issue. We learned that people will flock to him because of factors closer to charisma than to ideology or policy. We learned that people will believe what he said just that moment, regardless of whether he says the opposite just a few short hours later. We watched him do exactly that at AIPAC, and he rarely uses an amplification system or media appearances when he does not bring forth some new opinion, contradicting yesterday.

With this serving as his only track record, since his political accomplishments total to zero, voting for him is an admission that our IQ is somewhere in the single digits. But he promised to treat Israel as a friend? Yep. And 10 minutes later, he committed to give every enemy of Israel whatever they want. Might he eventually side with Israel and insure that United States never wavers in its support? He might. But 50% (and maybe more) says that he’ll sell us down the river for a chocolate bar. Could he be trusted to provide military support for Israel? I wouldn’t even go there. He knows nothing of foreign policy, and less about military anything. He is busy teaching America that it is time that we have a black president. Well, I couldn’t care less what color the president is. But to vote for a bouncy-bouncy, inexperienced imbecile is not my idea of politics. Is it yours?

Dear Well meaning Debbie,
You are a nice person who is open minded and willing to listen to new things.
How about this? Barack Obama is trying to become president of the most powerful country on the planet.
The reason that all the leaders of many third world countries are all in favor of him is that they know they will have only two choices to make with him as president.
A. They will realax and wait for him to start new policies that will lean heavily in the left and pro rebels direction ("rebel," as in Ayers, Che, Wright, Pflegler, Farakhan, et al).
B. Obama will be an easy pushover because he likes to take a stand after issues have unfolded so he can see where the people are (Barack Hussein isn't anywhere, he is not a leader, he is a reactor, he has not policies, just reactions)and that doesn't make a strong leader, it makes a weak follower.
Oh and you can tell by most of his "friends" what he thinks of Jews. And if he disagrees with them about Jews, why did he pick so many haters and call them his friends?
Perhaps you should think again before picking someone with a lot of words who has done no actions.
Most Americans (in polls) do not know what he stands for.

One of the things that we Jews suffer from most these days is everyone speaking publicly in the name of Judaism who have no connection to most Jews or right to speak for all Jews. Chabad is now speaking to John McCain. They have an opinion but they certainly don't represent me.

Ms. Wasserman Schulz Schwartz Klein is a typical liberal who has no idea what Judaism is and has not been seeking the truth related to Hussein Obama. He has mostly anti Israel advisers, close connections to radical Muslims, he emraces Reverend Wright's radical philosophy and his general pro gay and immoral stance are contrary to Torah.

We are clearly in the hands of Hashem yisborach and must pray that he grants us sholom and yeshua from our problems soon.

This congresswoman is the perfect example of the American Jew who has substituted being a Democrat for being a Jew.

There isn't a single value espoused by Obama that an observant Jew could agree with; abortion, military, Israel, taxation, investing, and family values.

Somehow these democrat jews manage to agree with these non-jewish values while claiming them as Jewish - its misguided and sick.

Aug 27, 2008 at 11:33 PM Fed Up Reform Jew Says:

Newsflash: there are Jews who don't look and act and sound like the ortho community.... many millions of Jews actually do believe in things like zionism, gay rights and civil rights for all. That's what Obama stands for, and if you don't agree with equality for all then by all means, vote for the other guy.

16

Aug 27, 2008 at 11:36 PM ananymous Says:

Whether Debbie is religious Jew or not, who cares. Barack Obama does not represent my values as an American citizen. Democrats in general don't represent my values as a Jew either. If you know your history, this was the party that supported segregation and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to sign civil rights legislation. This is a party that is anti the family values that generations of yidden cherish.

Note to Ms. Schultz: you are a member of Congress. You are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the US. You are not a spokesman for Jewish values. For instance, Judaism doesn't allow abortions. My understanding, and I'm not posek, is exceptions are made if it's pikuach nefesh for the mother. But show me where infantcide, killing a baby after it's born, is a Jewish value? Your Jewish values candidate supported this! Show me where Jewish values include bombing our government? The same government that provides us freedom to be Jews?

17

Aug 27, 2008 at 11:58 PM Vote McCain Says:

anon 736,

how could you be so ignorant? you think the dems pushed the civil 'rights' laws in this country?? hate to tell ya but without the republicans pushing it, the bill would have gone no where! check the facts, they may shock you!!

do you have a problem with the republicans being the party not to be afraid to say that te terrorists are islamists yemach sh'mom?

let me ask you something else. why can the dems like jimmy peanut farmer carter yemach sh'mo can call the obamanation a "boy" and get away with it? if a republican said it he would have been tarred & feathered. talk about a double standard!!

so 947 when you really get down to it, the democratic party is the party of hatred & bigotry. they would have been long gone if not for all the programs they keep making so that the sh'choyrim & the mexicans are beholden to them.

Aug 28, 2008 at 12:25 AM Anonymous Says:

Obama does not believe in Zionism. Don't be naive. Obama, if elected, will lean against Israel. No Jew should be supporting him, but as someone said, the Democratic Party is the 'relgion' of many American Jews these days.

19

Aug 28, 2008 at 12:38 AM Mark Levin Says:

Right on "Vote McCain!!!"

Sorry Ms Congress Person but I opened Chumash VaYikra and there wasnt a single Lo Sa'say there that the Democratic party abides by. That tells me they DONT REPRESENT ANY our values. I guess you must have missed that time in religous school. Perhaps a tuition refund would be in order?

Hi to Annonymous who wrote "half your (reform) movement are goy converts who aren't halachic Jews."

I have to say that hurts. I am a convert to reform Judaism. I am trying to follow halachic laws. It's hard with no one really teaching you. How about loving the convert? We all have a lot to learn in life. Would you dare say that about Abraham and Sarah? You might consider me a "goy" but I love HaShem and am trying to worship him according to Torah. Please love the convert instead of calling them names.
Thank you.
Annie

hey annie
we do love converts
at the same time, hashem is the one that defined how to become one about 3300 years ago . we also respect gentiles as we are all created in His image. but you would not support people trying to become american citizens before they fully comit to respect and abide by the constitution, would you?

"we need to stand with other minorities."

As we did with the blacks in the 60s? And what do we have to show for it? 75% of blacks dislike Jews? As much as I hate Hillary, she was probably safer than B. Hussein Obama. This has to be the only country in the world where we spent a trillion dollars to remove a president named Hussein only to elect our own.

27

Aug 28, 2008 at 08:12 AM Charlie Hall Says:

"For instance, Judaism doesn't allow abortions. My understanding, and I'm not posek, is exceptions are made if it's pikuach nefesh for the mother."

That is my understanding, too. But it is not the understanding of the evangelical Christians or especially of the Roman Catholic Church. The latter would ban all abortions for any reason if they could, and in one country, Nicaragua, they have succeeded. Neither is it the understanding fo the liberal Christians such as Obama, whose churches do not teach that abortion is a sin. Neither reflects Jewish teaching. But the current situation in the US is better for Jews, as it allows us to follow our religion, which would not be possible if the entire world adopted the Nicaragua model.

28

Aug 28, 2008 at 09:53 AM Tzoorba Says:

Annie,

If you really loved Hashem yisborach you wouldn't accept an ersatz, fake pale imitation of Judaism.

If you want to continue to fool yourself and believe that you are coming close to Hashem under reform, we have no patience for your false pretensions.

No real Jew would ever marry you or any of your children unless you undergo a full Orthodox halachic conversion with full acceptance of all of the mitzvos and attitudes of our holy Torah.

If you do a real conversion, you will become one of us and join the ranks of the holy Jewish people.

Dear ex frummie.

You intrigue me. I am rather morbidly interested in your views of Hashem, the World, the Torah, and Judaism. Have you formed an opinion on these matters? Do you have a clearly defined path which you wish to take for the rest of your life or are you meandering through life hoping that somehow one day the dust will settle and you will find yourself?

I presume, since you chose to call your self "ex frummie" and you frequent and actively comment on a frum site, that you are not at peace with your choice of lifestyle - assuming you have a formal lifestyle - which brings me to my first question.

It would be interesting to have a more in-depth discussion with you on these matters.

Lincoln (GOP) freed the slaves. Dr. King was a registered Republican. All of the big racists of his time who opposed him, like George Wallace and Lester Maddox, were Democrats. Clinton's mentor, Fulbright, a segregationist, was a Democrat. Senator Byrd (the Grand Kleagle/Exalted Cyclops of the KKK), was, and remains, a proud Democrat. Enough said.
