Brooklyn, NY – It was a sea of pleated skirts today at Barclays Center as over 13,000 Bais Yaakov girls, mothers and grandmothers gathered together to observe the 80th yahrtzeit of Sara Schenirer.

Parking was banned on Flatbush Avenue during the memorial gathering as 270 busses flooded the area bringing participants for a morning of inspiration that included addresses by Rabbi Malkiel Kotler, Rabbi Ephraim Wachsman, Rebbetzin Rena Tarshish and video addresses from Israel featuring the Gerrer and Belzer Rebbetzins and Rebbetzin Leah Kolodetsky, daughter of Rav Chaim Kanievsky.
92 schools from the tri-state area and as far away as Baltimore, Toronto, Cleveland and Boston sent delegations to the tribute, with live video hookups held in various places both in the United States and abroad including Chicago, Minneapolis, Deer Park, London and Belgium.

Sarah Schenirer was hailed as a “gadol hador” in her generation for having the single largest impact of any person on klal yisroel during the time that she lived.
The various speakers inspired the audience to live up to their role as bnos melachim, reminding them that the future of the Jewish nation is largely dependent on the commitment and dedication of its young women who will shape future generations.
One high schooler described being inspired by the speakers from Israel.
“It is amazing how people can have such deeply rooted emunah in Hashem,” she said. “You saw it lighting up their faces.”
Seeing so many Bais Yaakov girls, dressed in their uniforms, all in one place?
A once in a lifetime experience, according to the ninth grader.
“You don’t realize just how many people 13,000 is until you get to see it.”

Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece! May her memory be a blessing and an inspiration to many generations of enthusiastic and erlich girls and women. Thank you , in particular , for sharing the wonderful photographs that included the happy faces of so many of her talmidos.
Thank you for showing us pictures we will never see in a frum magazine. I would haved loved to show my grandaughter a commerative issue about this event. How sad.
Thank you, Vosizneais, for not blurring these shiny, happy, innocent faces!
Its unfortunate how the biography of Sarah Schenirer is white washed to conform today’s Ultra-Orthodox politically correct standards.
This is a tremendous Kiddush HaShem. I am proud of my granddaughters who are Beis Yaakov talmidot. May the legacy of Sara Shenirer continue to inspire girls to expand their horizons by setting high standards for social and spiritual growth. They will achieve whatever goals they set their minds to accomplish. With belief in themselves may they live their lives with Bitochon and Emunahs HaShem, raising their own families in Torah-true Yiddishkeit.
