South Fallsburg, NY - After a story in the Times Herald-Record that allegedly misquoted South Fallsburg, NY police chief Simmie Williams, resulting in several disparaging comments on VIN News, the chief himself has personally reached out to Vos Iz Neias to set the record--and the Times Herald-Record--straight.

In a phone call with VIN News, Williams said he was "personally hurt and offended" by being misquoted by the Record--and then characterized by readers as a slouch who doesn't take hate crimes seriously. The crime in question was the recent drawing of a noose, swastika and the letters "KKK" on a South Fallsburg property.

Williams insisted that despite his several contacts with the Record to demand that a correction be made--"I never said what they quoted me saying", he tells VIN News--the Record has not satisfactorily responded.

Williams explained that what he had actually said was that a few violators had "vented" against an entire community, emphasizing that they had attacked not just the Jewish community but the entire community at large. Williams added that he was outraged by the incident and that he had immediately dispatched a clean-up crew and launched an investigation.

"I am personally offended and hurt that the Jewish commnity and the entire community has read something that is totally false," he said. "I would like to reiterate that I have close relationships with your community and every community in Sullivan County. I do not take such incidents lightly, and as a matter of fact, I have interviewd a few teens to question them on this. and I strongly condemn this incident with the highest condemnation, and i will continue to investigate this.

I want you should know I keep my cell phone on by my bed and with me 24 hours a day in case I'm ever needed in the community for anything." Said the Chief.

Many community leaders attest to the fact that the chief is an Ohev Yisroel, and therefore, VIN News would like to point out the tremendous 'hakoras hatov' that the community feels towards Chief Williams for his outstanding help and availability to our community, both in South Fallsburg and beyond, and during the summer and all year 'round.

Bravo Chief!

This is the Simmie I know!

Keep up the good work. We (Hatzolah, and the community at large) realize what a daunting task it is to be the Chief of Police in such an area.

I was told about this story and I feel it is my duty as the Rov in South Fallsburg to let the commnunity know that Chief Williams is a real Mentsh and does not deserve the insults in this blog or any other. Simmie is my friend and neighboor whom I respect and admire his service to the community. Shame on the Times Herald Record for constantly putting our community down. Simmie has delt with this particular case as always with professionalism and sensitivity. Thank you Chief!

Hate events make news and sell papers which increase advertizing. Good news, especially relating to Jews, just makes the haters more hateful. They WANT Jews to look bad. The chief is too smart for these characters.

Great Job Chief, I hope that doing the right thing doesn't hurt you, and makes the paper realize their error.

to Common Cents: The Rabbi was referring to the original article, in which the Chief was being criticized for his "quote".

I have known Chief Simmie all my life and he is they type of guy that every one POLICE DEPARTMENT should have as there CHIEF. Simmie and I go way back that we used to ride the same bus together way back when we went to school together. Once again I agree 100% with Rabbi Barros, as I grown to know him as well.

The Chief, really, meant to convey the message (in his original comment), that those low-life punks who did this [hate-crime] offended the entire Community! He was "misquoted" because of the "Intellectual Dishonesty" of the THR reporter!
