Ruben Ubiles was found not guilty in Dec. 2012 of 12 counts of arson and a drug possession charge, but was charged in Brooklyn Supreme Court Wednesday with jail time for burglary based on his statement to the police that he entered the apartment building to “smoke and get high,” reports NY Daily News (http://bit.ly/1NlT0TR).

In order to be found guilty of burglary one has to enter the grounds with intent to commit a crime – Ubiles’ crime was breaking into a building to get high.

Ubiles was first charged with arson as a hate crime for burning the Jewish artifacts, but was indicted for just arson without a charge of a hate crime.

The conviction will be appealed according to defense lawyer Morris Shamuil.

Sounds pretty weird. Hard to believe anybody is going to go away for 11 years for trespassing.

This is crazy. Our society locks people up for far too long. Eleven years in prison for burning mezuzahs! No way should this be for that long.

Before you freak out, the New York Times reported that in 2012 it cost the city $168,000 for each prisoner. Over 11 years, the cost will around $1.7 million. Still think the sentence is appropriate?

The vermin has a secular biologically Jewish lawyer who probably argued that mezuzas are objects of superstition by very backwards people and burning them is not a crime.

I wonder how this clown would feel if we burned 12 Korans.

No rachmunis on this guy here. If I recall correctly he has a long rap sheet. And he definitely terrorized the building residents with his actions.
