New York City - Bloomberg's Secret Mission to Satmar Community in State Senate Race |
New York City - Mayor Bloomberg is reportedly sending Kevin Sheekey on a “secret mission” to convince the Satmar community to vote for Dan Squadron, who is running for the Democratic nomination for a State Senate seat in the the 25th State Senate District in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, the race is against Democratic Sen. Marty Connor.
“The mayor wants his ‘deputy mayor for presidential aspirations’ to convince the Satmar to go with Squadron, and he’s suggesting the mayor’s office will reward the Satmar community with city grants if they go along with him,” contended one of the city’s most influential Democrats.
Bloomberg endorsed Squadron last month as an “independent voice” and a reformer who would shake up the Legislature.
Daniel lives in Carroll Gardens, where he attends Brooklyn Heights Synagogue.

we need to be more specific here. which satmar is the mayor targeting? i hope both satmar camps. to target just one of them is a waste because the opposing camp will automatically back his opponent, leaving no benefit to either candidate.

Squadron is running against Marty Connor a friend and supporter of Shelly Silver. He is running for State Senate is Silvers district.
Squadron is not frum. Squdron is supportted by Chuck Schumer. So if you don't like Schumer you would do well to avois Squadron.
Conner is the Senate Minority Leader. If you rewplace him with Squadron there is no seniority clout for your representative.
Connor has been a friend to yidden for his entire carreer, just because someone comes along who is jewish is no reason to vote him out in the primary. That is why we no longer have Al D'Amato as Senator because of all the "deals" made so Schumer (Democrat) should beat D'Amato (Republican).
In my opinion, Bloomberg is doing this to get back at Silver for not supporting congestion pricing and the stadium proposal. It is sheer vindictivness.
BTW, How can Bloomberg promise to "sweeten the pot" if he is leaving office due to term limits?
It would not surprise me if the money taken away from UJC and Met Council is what he will restore. This is corrupt government at its worst.

Sheeky is coming to offer Bloomberg's largesse, not his personal money, but taxpayer money, to the Satmar Chasidim. Isn't that illegal? And if they don't do what his boss wants, he will for sure threaten to take away any funding the Satmars get. Maybe the U.S. Attorney should attend the meeting too.

By the way, do not support this guy Squadron. His father was President from American Jewish Committee when they were siding with Palestinians in negotiations with the Israeli government. Maybe that is what Schumer wants too.
