In this exclusive VIN News video, owner and wine expert Moishe Meyer explains the subtle differences in taste between wines from France and California and the key to pairing wine with foods: choosing lighter wines for more delicately flavored foods, heavier wines for bolder foods and even which wines go best with pizza.
“What goes great with fish, lemon, right?” asks Meyer. “But you can’t bite into a lemon on its own. But if its blended and you put it on the fish it tastes delicious.”
Holding up a bottle of wine with a grapefruity, more acidic flavor, Meyer pronounces “This would go perfect with fish.”
Meyer demystifies some of the more bizarre behaviors of wine aficionado, including sniffing and swirling, explaining how each of these behaviors enhances wine consumption.
With an eye towards the Sedarim, Meyer recommends not necessarily lower alcohol wines for the first two kosos, but rather lighter bodied wines that are more suitable to an empty stomach.
Meyer also discusses the best temperatures for wine, the shelf life of wines, both opened and unopened and whether or not children should be drinking wine at the sedarim.
