Following the tragic incident of a deadly fire caused by a faulty hotplate that killed seven Jewish children in Brooklyn, ZAKA England hired professional electricians to check plates in the hopes of preventing another tragedy.
Members of the local fire departments were also present, offering fire safety advice and arranging free home safety surveys on request that include the provision of smoke alarms.
The Sassoon family lost seven of their children – Jacob, Sarah, Moses, Joshua, Rebecca, David and Elian in a fire March 21.
The electricians found 270 faulty hotplates during their inspections, with problems such as visible wires and melted plastic.
Why isn’t this being done in Brooklyn?
As I pointed out in another thread, that sometimes the cause of fire when using an electrical appliance might not be in the appliance itself. Rather in the house wiring or the outlet where the appliance is plugged in.
The first sign that a problem exists is excessive heat. In a properly working system, the only part that should feel hot to the touch is the appliance itself. Any other part, such as the cord or the terminal or outlet should not be warm at all. If that is not the case, a qualified electrician should be consulted before further use use of the appliance…!
