Police say Thompson low indictment record needs to change if he wants support from police, reports New York Daily News (http://bit.ly/1GfNjs0). President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association Ed Mullins says the low numbers have an adverse effect on police officers, saying police won’t be so willing to put their lives on the line if Thompson is lenient on criminals.

Vin News previously reported that Thompson has indicted or obtained guilty pleas on the lowest number of felonies of prosecutors across the city (http://bit.ly/1ICUbxl) obtaining a guilty plea or indicting 10 percent less felony charges in 2014 than former DA Charles Hynes’s last two years in the position.

One law enforcement source says Thompson’s prosecutors seemed wary of making decisions and that they typically check with senior officials before making a decision to indict.

The DA’s staff has defended the low numbers, saying that Thompson fights every day to lower crime in Brooklyn by targeting violent criminals like gangs and gunrunners.
