Mr. Poshiter Teanecker-
We must not be so quick to judge! Do you have any idea why or for how long he had a suspended license? Is it possible you may not know all the details? How about some rachmanus on the driver who will have to deal with this tragic accident for the rest of his life?
Maybe you should save the mussar for your talmidim, I'm sure you have many.....

Does it really matter whether either of them were frum, or Jewish for that matter. A person died and that was the tragedy.

In the 66 pct, over the summer there was 600 car stops. 45 people that were pulled over from part of this stat were frum and had suspended licenses.

You have to be a real idiot to have a license revoked. Nobody has their license mysteriuosly revoked. A driver has to have many points to have his license revoked.

Please obey the laws.

TO 12:10 A revoked is not the same as suspended. You will get arrested for both. As I write this I can think of at least three people I know who had a suspended license. and were not aware until they made a spot check which is offered many times in some shuls.

Ok VIN - Try it this way: Youthinkso 9:52 PM and Anonymous 10:42 - Were it a Yid who had been struck and killed by a goy driving on a suspended license, how measured would be your response? Would you allow his community to tell you to "...come up with something intelligent..." because the driver is a "good boy?" Good Boys don't drive on suspended licenses.

Yonason - Comments are for people to come up with something intelligent. dont comment on what others are saying. You must be a rotten person and just upset that if it happened to you then people wouldnt say youre a nice guy. get some feelings

Anon 12:10 am,

How in the world did you get that statistic?
Is that a question the cop answers when he writes the ticket?
- Frum
- non frum

This is so sad. This person was 91, and going strong, and has probably been through so much in his life, only to be run down by an irresponsible individual.

Some here are saying, "he is a good boy." That may be true, but he did kill a person, and that guilt will haunt him for the rest of his life.

As a RESPONSIBLE driver, you should be aware of whether your license is valid or not. This man apparently did not have a valid drivers license, so that alone will have a negative affect on how the Judge views this tragedy, even if it was an accident.

BEFORE WE JUDGE THE DRIVER LETS FIND OUT IF IT WAS EVEN HIS FALTE MAYBE THE MAN WAS CROSSING THE ROAD IN A DANGEROUS SPOT

" bad mistake???"

A PERSON DIED!

Raboisai there is no second chances with driving.
There is no "mistakes." The consequences are disasterous.

A man was killed because someone who obviously shouldnt have been driving did - and did so poorly.

the man was 91 years old. you dont get to live that long by crossing in the middle of the street.

IT DOESNT FREAKING MATTER

It only matters that he obviously did enough "mistakes" to warrant a suspension and then did something worse by driving anyway.

I am surprised that so many of you here are so quick to judge this young man. None of us know exactly what happened. Was the young man driving faster than traffic normal traffic in that area?
(This is an area where cars are exiting the Van Wyck Expressway on to Main St.) Did the victim cross with or against the light? (Sometimes older people may start crossing with the light and still not have enough time to cross).
What happened could have been totally accidental or there could have been some degree of negligence. Friends of the family have told me that he was unaware that his license had been suspended (for not paying a traffic ticket on time). As careful drivers that we might be, anyone can get a traffic ticket or two in the course of a lifetime. All you need is for the notice of suspension to get lost in the mail and you wouldn't know. What you should have known, is that you were responsible to pay the traffic ticket, and not paying it can really lead to suspension of your license.

Having a suspended license, alone, does not really say much about the driver. The reason for the suspension, I believe, speaks louder.

Having a license suspended can happen for a number of reasons. Check out the following site - http://www.dmv.org/nv-nevada/suspended-license.php

Here is an excerpt from that site:
(note that your license can be suspended for not paying a traffic ticket on time)

Suspensions and Revocations

The following are the main reasons your license can be suspended or revoked:

* Driving under the influence (DUI).

* Failure to appear (not paying your traffic ticket on time or not appearing in court when assigned).

* Inadequate insurance coverage (if you're in an accident totaling more than $750 in damages and you don't have liability coverage, or you fail to provide proof of insurance after a suspension or revocation).

* Failure to pay child support.
* Twelve demerit points within a 12-month period.
* Convicted of a graffiti violation.
* Convicted of a firearm offense (juveniles only).
* Possession of alcohol or drugs (juveniles only).
* Truancy from school (juveniles only).

The facts are as follows: the driver's license was suspended for not paying a ticket on time. He was not aware that his license had been suspended; he never received a notice in the mail.
The unfortunate victim was stepped into the street from a median, in the middle of the street; not at a crosswalk. The driver was boxed in by a car on his right and the median on his left. He slammed on his brakes and honked his horn, but the victim did not move.
It is a terrible accident, but we shouldn't be quick to judge.

this is my great uncle ... a sweet, loving, wonderful and decent man of strong faith ... working for JNF even at 91 ... how painful it is to lose him at a time of year he loved ... fundraising for JNF.

this is no accident, it's criminal ... my uncle henry is dead ... a vehicle is a 3000 pound weapon and if you don't take that seriously, then you stand where we are and not see vehicular homicide.

when will this NICE BOY apologize to the daughter and son and grandchildren and nieces and nephews?
i won't hold my breath waiting.

We would greatly appreciate the privacy of our family to sit shivah in peace. Knowone has a right to judge anyone. My father as a pios man had just visited my mother's grave and his parents grave the day before in celebration of our New Year. Please allow our family to mourn ...the daughter and son of Mr. Levine.

Does it really matter if driver had license or not??? If he did not, than this delinquint should not have been behind the wheel. And if he was a law obeying citizen and his license was valid then he should had been following the rules of the road,DO NOT TO RUN PEOPLE OVER! yea it sucks for the driver that has to live with this, but the bottom line is he killed my grandfather. myron may you wake up with the taste of traif every morning.

Grandson- You are right but bottom line it was an accident. the driver didnt wake up one morning and decide to run your grandfather over. He was sent from G-d as the messanger. it is unfrotunate but i think you should put things into perspective. The driver didnt end your grandfathers life. It was meant to be from Heaven and im sure he lived a full life. Have a nice shabos.

Shame on you 2:45 PM. "Sent from G-d as the messenger?" Your comment is like saying the shooter didn't kill the man, the bullet did.
the only perspective here is that it will not be a nice shabbos for anyone from this family. How dare you say it was meant to be from heaven? i'm sure his children and grandchildren don't feel that way.

it is an accident TO UNCLE HENRY ...
when Benjamin Schlanger got in that car, when he drove the car when shouldn't have, that's CRIMINAL.
