Brooklyn, NY – Car-sharing service car2go is expanding to service the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bushwick, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Crown Heights and Southern Brooklyn, east of Ocean Parkway.

The service currently covers 31 square miles and will grow to 36 square miles with the expansion. The company already services Williamsburg, Borough Park, the western section of Crown Heights and limited portions of Flatbush, as well as Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, Bay Ridge, Park Slope, Bedford-Stuyvestant, Greenpoint and Brooklyn Heights.
The Home Area expansion comes after the company’s successful car2go Brooklyn start in Oct. 2014. Since the launch, car2go Brooklyn has grown to more than 26,000 registered members and has seen more than 165,000 trips.
As the service area grows, car2go will add 50 additional smart-for-two vehicles to its Brooklyn fleet, expanding its fleet to 450 vehicles.
“Since our launch, we have been focused on providing an innovative transportation solution for Brooklynites, allowing them greater opportunities to discover the vibrant neighborhoods within the borough,” said car2go Brooklyn General Manager Thomas McNeil. “Our members asked for it, and we listened.
With more than 2,000 members already residing in these neighborhoods – all of which can be difficult to reach via public transportation – it was a logical step to expand. We are delighted to help keep Brooklyn moving.”
Members can find a car2go vehicle using the smartphone app, the car2go website, calling the call center or finding an available car on the street. When members are finished using the vehicle, they may park at any city un-metered space, or on any residential neighborhood street within the car2go Home Area. Parking, fuel, insurance and maintenance are included with membership.
