Monday’s announcement by Avigdor Lieberman dealt a setback to Netanyahu, who is trying to cobble together a majority coalition in the 120-seat parliament by a Wednesday deadline. Lieberman has served two terms as foreign minister and has been a key ally of Netanyahu’s throughout the years.
Lieberman said he could not sit in the government after Netanyahu struck a series of deals with ultra-Orthodox partners. Lieberman’s party is secular.
Lieberman’s once-powerful party plummeted in the March election to just six seats. Without Yisrael Beitenu, Netanyahu is expected to have a slim majority of just 61 seats, leaving him susceptible to the demands of partners.
Wow… that’s good news, finally we got rid of of all jew haters lapid & now from him.
Netanyahu caved in to The Ortho phonies now he has bigger problems. He wants power at any cost. Politics makes strange bedfellows as the bible says.
good, Lieberman is a big talker but a corrupt do nothing. he talked about loyalty tests to Arab “Israeli” traitors instead we got MORE arabs in knesset, good riddance.
Bennet now has Netanyahu over a barrel; either he gets the religious ministry or Netanyahu is sunk. If he gets it, then Shas pulls out and Netanyahu is sunk. Another round of elections or does Herzog pull it off?
It looks like the “and hashem hardened the heart of Pharoh” kind of thing.
Libermen is correct. The charedim are the most fiscally irresponsible parties out there. Governments can not just continue to dish out money and programs especially for those that don’t work. I have yet to see one fiscally responsible bill from UTJ or shas. If you reinstute all the pre austerity 2012 programs you must find a way to pay for it.
Furthermore, programs should be only for those that are working yet struggling.Governments are and should not be tzedaka organization. Government spending should only be in a way that encourges growth and work opportunties for its citizens. Rather than a free child subsidy for every yungerman with kids, it should be a earned income child tax credit. So you must work to get that money. Vat tax on new home purchases should be lifted for earners as well. Perhaps that can also be in the form of tax credits similar to mortagge deductions.
Bottom line the ultra-orthdox notion of reckeless spending is harmful and should be stopped. In-fact they are just harming themselves and future generations too.
I don’t understand. By doing this he strengthens the frum parties. As long as he’s in, more than one party would have to quite to harm the coalition. Now any one of the parties individually can demand whatever they want.
liberman is trying to get the best deal he can for his ideas so goodbye and good riddance
Reply to 2. Whose bible says that?
The frum parties will grow bigger and bigger and the non frum smaller and smaller with each election because the Frum have large families and the non frum just a 1 child and a dog.
Boruch Hashem that we got rid of this dog.
