Lakewood, NJ - Yeshiva Student Beaten, Robbed |

Lakewood, NJ - A student from Rabbi Slomowitz’s Yeshiva was walking on Ridge Avenue and New Hampshire and was assaulted in front of bystanders by a black man who jumped out of a vehicle robbed him of $250 and seriously assaulted him, causing the 18-year-old student severe head trauma. Lakewood Hatzolah on the scene requesting Medics on a rush, Lakewood Police also responding.

The victim has been transported by Hatzolah to Jersey Shore Trauma Center, his injuries are not life threatening.
Police say, there is no indication at this time that the assault was a bias crime.
Abraham Muller, police chaplain, agreed.
"Robbery seems to be the motive," he said, adding that this was a crime common in urban areas, especially at night.
"People have to know you don't walk out at night alone," he said. "People have a false sense of security living in the Orthodox community."

About them being at Wawa... If your a cop why shouldn't you be allowed to have a break? They are human just like you and me they get a lunch or dinner break. And they don't get it ontime everyday sometimes they don't get to take a break for several hours because they are busy.
About them giving tickets.. If we wouldn't drive and park the way we do and actually obey the laws they wouldn't be giving so many tickets. For some reason we jews think we could do what we want and when we get a ticket "oh he was such an anti-semite"

My son was mugged in CH several years ago at gunpoint by a gang and was knocked out and was treated at Kings County Hospital. He was returning late at night from a farbrangin. The best thing to do is to call a taxi when it is an hour that there are few Jews on the street. It is not smart to walk alone in the dark. This is stated in Pirkei Avos.

if true kick him out of shul, make him an outcast until he evicts the tenants. You can evict people for drugs in NJ, pressure him. Why is he renting to gang members, normal people won't rent it. If it is a house not an apartment building it makes that much easier. I am not saying the attacker came from that building, but i am sure, it does not help that it is there.
Unless they are supplying the yeshiva guys

The Rabbonim haven't done anything to stop these Frum slum lords from renting to lowlives, besides issuing some Kol Korei which has been ignored. The plain person in this town has trouble getting their kids into schools; Do you think these slumlords ever had trouble? If you make a decree, it has to be backed up by some sort of action to those that don't comply. If the slumlords stop renting to lowlives (And I don't mean every Goy) most of the criminal activity would go away. Gang members and Drug pushers need to rent houses to do their work because they need to move around alot so they don't get caught. They are not interested in buying houses. Take away their base to do their work and they will move on!

As a memebr of Shomrim of Baltimore, I completely agree with the memebr of the LCSW. Lakewood needs to continue to grow it's civilian patrol like Shomrim in other frum neighborhoods. It has a proven track record. Community leaders need to alert community memebers to be alert and cognizant of their surroundings. Lakewood is obviously not the safe small town it once was. Be vigilant and organized and crime will decrease.

I don't know how I would handle an eviction of gang members. You try starting up with gang members,it's not all that simple. However something MUST get done about these dogs living in our community just don't think evicting members of a known gang would be a smooth ride to say the least.

This particular incident is nothing more or less in the eyes of local authorities then a statistical number that they have to work with. Therefore please do not expect any major changes in the neighborhood unless you, as a whole Jewish community, express your thoughts about it on local, state and federal level. Do not hesitate to utilize the media.
Please under no circumstances do not try to take this matter in your own hands by dealing directly with individual assailants, as it will only harm you.
Let professional law enforcement authorities do their job and by all means help them with as much info as you got.
At any point in time you suspect a criminal activity afoot or in the vehicle, contact 911 and give them the info.
As soon as you point a finger at some one and say “this individual punched me in the face, stole my wallet, or threatened me in any way”, local police authorities will have enough reason to make an arrest and prosecute.
This is the only way I know that works in fighting crime on the street level.

To those who suggested mace or pepper spray, some NYPD officers had another solution when there was a problem in Brooklyn many year ago. ReaLemon sells lemon juice in lemon shaped containers. Fill that with ammonia. That's not illegal like mace, and can be at least as effective in case of emergency.
