WTTG-TV ( http://bit.ly/1LfrQi7 ) reports the incident happened last Friday at Gwynn Park Middle School in Prince George’s County.
Officials say in the video the teacher has what appears to be a belt in his hand and hit students on the floor.
The school system says the substitute teacher – whose name they did not provide – has been removed from the classroom and law enforcement is now involved.
It is unclear if the teacher will face charges.
this used to happen in every yeshiva just a few years back. I guess now yeshiva’s are simply scared of being sued.
What age kids?
My kid got smacked so hard by his cheder rebbe several years ago that his ear swelled up and he refused to return to cheder. I had to switch him to a different cheder.
Time have changed. Beating kids is not the answer but a problem in itself. Teachers and Rebbes must learn how to control themselves and control the class.
Any teacher hits my kid, I’ll be the one in jail.
My father was hit so hard by HIS rebbi he was permanently deaf in that ear. This teacher should be prosecuted, have his teacher’s license stripped, & not be allowed to work with kids again.
I remember the teacher slamming the door on my head and I gushing blood, nothing happened to any of these teachers.
I had friends growing up who went to Toras Emes in Boro Park. Not only did they hit, they put kids in the garbage can.
The story is too sketchy, to say the least. We don’t know what those kids did to provoke their teacher. Anybody familiar with Prince George’s county demographics will confirm that those are the “kids” that are hard to control.
All these anonymous complaints here, but I would guess not one police complaint was filed. I would say we all know abusive teacher and most people do NOTHING but whinge in private.
Toras Emes in Boro Park? Toras Emes in Los Angeles was notorious for using the belt to keep boys in line. This went on for decades. Few people discuss it today. In part, because quite a number of the victims suffer silently and ended up understandably, going off the derech. Torah was taught from a vantage point of fear, not love. There was a shortage of Rebbeim who knew how to communicate effectively. So the belt or stick or raw hand was the great communicator. They may have won the battle but they lost the war.
my Kittah hay rebbe use to “lieg ibber” then we found out that corduroy fabric does not hurt, so there was a run on corduroy pants that year.
The principal in the yeshiva had 3 belts hanging in his office and you had to select what belt to use on you soon to be tender behind
In my opinion, he deserves the Teacher of the Year award!
No outrage because he’s black
He’s black so don’t expect any outrage from the black community.
