The incident has been referred to the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force, according to the 66th Precinct’s Twitter feed.
“It is a sad commentary that this keeps happening in Jewish communities throughout the state,” Assemblyman Dov Hikind told VIN News. “What kind of human being would draw this ultimate symbol of hate?”
An anonymous caller who saw the swastikas on 49th Street and 19th Avenue phoned Hikind’s office to inform him of the vandalism. Area surveillance footage is being combed in an effort to identify the perpetrators.
Hikind urged the public to report any instances of swastikas or other displays of anti-Semitism.
“When you see something like this you should let the police know and report it to your elected officials,” said Hikind. “You can’t just say that a swastika doesn’t mean anything. If someone is drawing a swastika in your neighborhood something is terribly, terribly wrong.”
