An alert was issued to members of the medical community including those who deal in primary care, infectious disease, internal, emergency, laboratory and family medicine, pediatrics and infection control urging them to make sure that all patients are up to date on their vaccines. The alert also requested that the DOH be alerted immediately to any potential cases and that proper diagnostic testing be performed.

21 cases of pertussis have been confirmed in Williamsburg and Borough Park from this past October through April, affecting 18 children and three adults. Among the children diagnosed with pertussis, 12 were unvaccinated and another two had been vaccinated but were not up to date with their pertussis vaccines. Ten of the children were infants that were less than one year old, two of which were hospitalized.

The DOH is asking all physicians to vaccinate pregnant women with the Tdap vaccine during pregnancy and to make sure that all patients are up to date with both DTaP and Tdap vaccines.

Any kid who has this cough should be suing their parents.

Yeah, that is the right way, make fun of autism. I am a parent of an autistic boy and your comment stung.
1, Any parent would risk pertussis over autism. Kids recover from whooping cough.
2, A health professional calculates in terms of LD, lethal dose. This refers to harmful effects, not necesarily lethal. They always consider risk vs benefits.
3, I am sure most parents allow tetanus vaccines when necesary. Most tetanus vaccines now contain pertussis vaccine as well so as to ensure kids get the booster often.

“…..12 were unvaccinated and another two had been vaccinated but were not up to date with their pertussis vaccines.”

Wasn’t it Rav Shmuel Kaminetsky who said that even the Salk Vaccine was a Fraud? If these people don’t watch out, they’ll be subject to Natural Selection רח”ל.

Pertussis is long lasting and very very serious. Even those who avoid vaccinating because they think it’s connected to autism have figured out a way to space the vaccines so they don’t overload the body.

Hard for me to understand why our community dafka doesn’t vaccinate… While every parent has the right to decide for their children, the public has the right to refuse to be exposed.

Any parent who doesn’t vaccinate their kids deserves exactly what’s coming to them. Unfortunately – it’s their innocent children don’t!
These parents are not only endangering their own children, they are endangering everybody else around them who the vaccine is not 100% effective for: young unvaccinated babies, people like my son who lose their immunity to chemotherapy, and anyone else who didn’t have the vaccine work. I seriously hope these outbreaks scare parents straight before there are more karbanos. Hundreds of doctors have disproved that one autism study. How can people be so stupid and irresponsible?????

anybody whose child has had pertussis will not think it’s minor. my child nearly choked. very dangerous for infants; they need hospitalization.

Yes, I have found the NYC Health Department employees do investigate in a racist manner.
Years ago, whn my son had shigellosis the case was reported to the health department and they contacted me for information. Their first question pertained to religion. they did not ask about school, recreation, family but only religion. As a health professional I called them out on this and I got the most ridiculous cover up answers that could be imagined.
So, there are issues for our community to deal with AND there is racism against us.
