The debt centers around a seven-year-old legal dispute with EuroAtlantic air centers on Israir’s use of EuroAtlantic carriers to operate flights to New York. Portugal’s Supreme Court ruled in favor or EuroAtlantic last year, but Israir said the seizure was a pressure tactic designed to take it customers hostage.

The confiscation threw off Israir’s flight schedules, causing delays and cancellations.
