Earlier reports by Israeli media said five rockets had been fired but it was later found that electronic sensors watching for firings may have given false readings.
There were no reports of damage or injuries. The remnants of one rocket were found near the port city of Ashdod, about 20 km north of the Gaza Strip, an ambulance service spokesman said.

Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, has fired thousands of rockets at Israel over the years. But rocket fire has mostly stopped since the end of last summer’s war between Gaza militants and Israel.
Other militant groups have fired rockets in the meantime, though Israel holds Hamas for all attacks coming out of Gaza.
Israeli media speculated that it may have been an errant rocket that was not intentionally aimed at Israeli territory.
