Queens, NY - Sixty-eight people were being evaluated today at an office building in Long Island City that was evacuated again today because of a suspicious odor.
The New York City Fire Department responded to a Hazmat situation at 33-00 Northern Blvd, the Food Stamp building next to the Sunnyside Train Yards yesterday afternoon and again early today. The Center Building houses a number of companies, including the MTA's Access-A-Ride offices.
Thirteen individuals were taken to area hospitals and treated for various ailments, including lightheadedness, difficulty breathing and nausea.
The victims were complaining of fumes in the air, but nobody seemed to know the source of the odor.
Authorities said they believed the odor was coming from the excavation of contaminated soil at the train yards, but the incident is under investigation.
