New York, NY - The first political event to feature both Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sarah Palin will now have neither.

Organizers of a rally next week in New York City against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced today that no politicians will appear at the event.

The collection of American Jewish groups putting the rally together angered Clinton aides by not telling them ahead of time that they also planned to have Palin, the Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate.

Clinton backed out Tuesday, as soon as she learned of the pairing.

Organizers said in a statement that they would have no "American political personalities" at the rally to keep the focus on Iranian threats.

This is disgraceful on the part of the organizers of the event. There is no reason to diminish the importance of the event with having high profile individuals because of the crying of one person. If Hillary Clinton or any other politician cannot come together with others from opposing parties in the name of national security, then they truly did not deserve to be our president. Thank g-d the voters got it right.

This is a shame. They have turned an event that potentially could have drawn 100,000 people to a non-event, from national news to barely worthy of MAD magazine.

YOU SHOULD BE VERY VERY VERY ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!!!!!!

If Obama and McCain can appear at the same event, why can't Hillary do the same and be sensitive to the rally organizers. Granted that the organizers should have given her a heads-up, it's no excuse to sabotage the rally.

It is curious that all of you who do not think this is a big deal also do not know how to spell. Unfortunately, it is indicative of american voters, unintelligent and uninformed. The point of a rally is to get the biggest turnout possible, no matter why people come. People means influence. With palin, they would have gotten the people, guaranteed to make headlines across the world - and the wolrd would know it was an anti-iran nuke rally.

So go continue spewing your irrational and naïve opinions and when we really want an opinion, we will give it to you.

It is better this way. A protest has no "power" -- it can only project an image. Democrat politicians and political groups put a great deal of pressure on the organizers of the rally to dis-invite Gov. Palin.

It is disgusting for three reasons;
A. Democrats in New York have been successful in destroying our constitutional right to FREEDOM of SPEECH and EXPRESSION.
B. Democrats in NY have taken what could have been a strong national bipartisan statement and killed it DEAD
C. A group of so called community leaders have no spine and are more concerned with their photo-op than the issues confronting America and the Jewish people they claim to represent

This IS all about Hillary their Queen - if NY doesn't start to vote Republican we will become a much poorest state - financially and morally.

"Democrats in New York have been successful in destroying our constitutional right to FREEDOM of SPEECH and EXPRESSION. "

That is nonsense, and you know it. You are perfectly free to organize your own rally and invite Gov. Palin to speak. (It does seem that hearing Gov. Palin rather than protesting the Iranian rasha was the main interest of many commenters here.)

46

Sep 18, 2008 at 08:13 PM mikey Says:

Many of you just don't get it;

Palin and Clinton and other big names can get serious TV and Cable and Internet publicity - eg more than 10 seconds.

Elie Weisel is great but not going to get air time with the super liberal NY media.

Palin by herself could get the publicity generated but Conf of Pres is a chicken-s organization with no balls.

If it isn't on world wide media it didn't happen.

I hope this explains PR and World politics to you.

47

Sep 18, 2008 at 08:57 PM Anonymous Says:

It's pretty apparent that the organizers of the event are partisan. Once Hillary jumped, they didn't want to be associated with the Republicans. I assume Palin was a veiled attempt at show non-partisism. The organizers need a history lesson which will confirm that the Republicans are the staunchest supporters of the Jewish cause. They blew it! Let's hope that if the Republicans get into the White House, they don't hold a grudge. If the Democrats get in, and if Hillary is any example, I pity Israel since Hillary's actions demonstrate a clear disinterest in the Jewish cause when it doesn't cooincide with personal aspirations.

A great chilul hashem and back stabbing the party which has been the staunchest supporters of Israel in RECENT years. If they wouldn't have invited her is one thing, but to reject her, are they normal? WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE? Why would they play the risk of the Republican party ignoring the cause in the future? How irresponsible. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN CONTACT THESE SO CALLED ORGANIZERS OF THIS EVENT?

I think having Hillary and Sarah Palin shows unity not Politics. Hillary has a way of spinning things in a way that makes your blood boil. What's political if you have both parties represented at the rally? Are we not all against Iran having the weapon?

I wont vote for Hillary next time she runs for re-election either as she has proven that politics first country second. I am quite happy she didn't win the primary.

Sep 18, 2008 at 10:52 PM Meatloaf Says:

The issue had nothing to do with Hillary.

It had to do with a major political blunder by Malcolm that embarressed the Jewish community.

If you invite the Republican vp nominee to speak during an election year, protocol demands that you invite the democratic vp nominee as well. Otherwise you are being partisan and you put the nonprofit status of the organization in question.

It wasn't until a few days AFTER the story broke that Malcolm, under pressure from major elements in the Conference of Presidents, issued an invitation to the Democrats. By that time the whole thing had become a political hot potato and the Dems decided to take a pass since this was going to become a media circus about dems and republicans and NOT about Iran.

Members of the Conf of Pres are pretty fed-up with Malcolm's attempts during political elections to push his own personal agenda (Republican and Likud) and in so doing, endanger the 501c status of the organization.

Hillary asked if they were inviting Biden to speak. When she heard they were not, she realized she was being used to provide a fig leaf of cover for Malcolm's error in protocol, and wisely dropped out.

What real difference will it make to us anyway if Israel is blown off the map by Iran? It won't have any affect on the vast majority of Americans and, quite frankly, will allow most of us to get on with our lives without hearing daily about the ridiculous bickering between the Israelis and the Palestinians. After all, the Israelis are not our friends - they only use us for our technology, our protective military presence in that region and the military training they get from us. They only reason we continue to support them is due to a very vocal group of American Jews who are far more loyal to Israel than to America. On a related subject, it's astonishing how little media attention is given to the repeated instances of spying by Israel against the United States. The most recent incident occurred this past April. Here's a lead sentence from the Washington Post article: "For more than two decades after he allegedly furnished an Israeli operative with secrets about U.S. nuclear initiatives and sensitive weapons programs, Ben-Ami Kadish lived unnoticed by law enforcement authorities in suburban New Jersey." So, why do we tolerate this spying from a country that receives $3 billion in aid from the United States? Back to the original point of this post - what real difference would it make if Iran blew them off the face of the Earth? Let's focus on truly important issues - this is certainly a distraction we do not need right now.

The decision to dis-invite VP Republican nominee Sarah Pelin is foolish, dopey and ill-conceived.

The objective is to protest the present day Haman - not to play patty cake with Democrats and get taken off track by them against Jewish survival interests!

So who are we to protest and who boycott?
Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who will be joining the ranks of Heads of States appearing before the United Nations General Assembly to make hay in the spotlight of his co-religionists or the self-appointed self-important decision-makers of such organizations who believe they speak for Jews?

I choose not to be devisive which clearly such a decision incurs. I also choose to not attend the rally. I am voting with my feet.

If you invite Palin, then you invite Biden.

Hillary is no Joe Biden, and to invite Hillary instead of Biden is to insult half the voters in the United States (and probably 60% of the voters in New York).

The person who turned this into a political event was Malcolm Hoenlein and he was soundly rebuked by the Conf of Pres for doing so.

The Conf. of Presidents is dominated by right-wing Jewish organizations including ZOA, and American Friends of Likud. Even they had to stand up and tell Malcolm that he went too far with his personal agenda.

77

Sep 19, 2008 at 08:50 AM horatio Says:

Hoenlein does what he is told by the biggest Jewish backer of the GOP. This was a trap. Knowing that the rally would be attended mainly by Orthodox jews and that they have swallowed the GOP Koolade, it was not something Hillary could have attended without being diminished. The video would have built Palin up and torn Hillary down at a time when the Republicans are rapidly losing ground in all polls. They knew she would pull out. It was a no-lose for the Republicans and that is what Hoenlein and his master wanted.

Biden has said in the past that he has no objection to Iran having an atomic weapon..."

Wrong.

Biden said that Israel and the US may have to live with a nuclear Iran. Keep in mind Iran has missles capable of carrying a nuclear payload that could hit Tel Aviv and all it takes is one missle to get through. Iran has decentralized its nuclear facilities so its likely that some of their production would survive a first strike. Who do you think they're going to shoot at first? Tel Aviv or Washington?
