London - New numbers released by the Department for Education revealed that hundreds of Orthodox Jewish boys in the borough of Hackney in London, England, are not in the official education system.

Despite attempts by authorities to register the yeshivas where it has been believed many boys were studying, statistics show that seven times as many teen girls as boys in Haredi schools in Hackney, according to the Jewish Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1N6T6QR ).

A 2015 school census shows that 104 boys from 14-16 years old are enrolled in Haredi schools, compared to 721 girls in the same age range. There are 275 girls, age 13, in Haredi schools, while there are just 49 13-year-old boys in Haredi schools.

The disparate numbers show that more than 800 boys are unaccounted for in the official education system.

The Department of Education stated no new yeshivas have been registered in the last two years. A DfE spokesperson said it is illegal to run an unregistered school.

Britain being the country of subjects, not citizens, if you want to properly register your school, you have to teach a certain curriculum, approved her majesty and bunch of other totally irrelevant figure. Fathers who want to raise bnei Torah know that they can't waste THAT much of their sons' precious time for such shtus. Thus, the result.

The limud is excellent in most of the unregistered ones in Stamford Hill and Manchester, so who cares, registered, unregistered?

Why would anyone ever accuse Yidden of not obeying the law.

Your comment belies your ignorance. The national curriculum is set by the the Government, i.e.. elected politicians, not the Queen.
You call it a waste of time. Funny, but I think the Gemara in Kidushin disagrees with you.
It dosent make sense that living a Jewish life costs disproportionally more than a non-Jewish life, but we have very little education that forces us to be dependent on Government welfare and Tzedokos.

The gemara in kiddushin requires a man to train his son to be able to make a living. It does not require him to teach his son English literature, higher maths, science, or any of the other totally time-wasting subjects taught under the guise of education. If the system would be geared to the final result of earning a living as in Germany, you might just have an argument. But the English system originally started out training little toffs to be big toffs, and has since descended into a farce that produces muggers and drug dealers - oh, and bankiers and politicians that steal more than anyone from the people.
The Jewish community is largely self-supporting, including its educational facilites. For the amount of taxes that the community pays, we get very little back in return.
